The Star festival is on July 7th in Japan. The day celebrates the make-believe story of love between two stars, Vega, the Weaver Princess, and Altair, the Herdsman.
The two were in love and forgot all about daily life. Altair let his herds wander, and Vega didn't weave. The King did not approve of this slacking, and only allowed them to see each other once a year, on July 7.
Every July 7, people in Japan make origami stars and hang them from rooftops and ceilings. The stars represent the night sky.
